Dr Marileen Roos is a compassionate and highly regarded Otolaryngologist (ENT Specialist) based in Bloemfontein, Free State. Known for her warm, family-focused approach and clinical dedication, she has become a trusted name in both private and public healthcare circles.

After earning her MBChB at the University of Pretoria, Dr Roos went on to specialise in Otorhinolaryngology at the University of the Free State. She began working as a specialist in 2018 and established her private practice in 2019, where she continues to provide comprehensive ENT care to patients of all ages.

Her clinical interests cover a broad range of ENT conditions, with particular focus on ear disease, hearing loss, paediatric ENT and sinonasal pathologies. She has a strong passion for hearing rehabilitation and is a long-standing member of the Bloemfontein Cochlear Implant Team and the South African Cochlear Implant Group, working to improve hearing outcomes for both children and adults.

Before transitioning fully into private practice, Dr Roos was a consultant at the University of the Free State’s ENT Department and Universitas Academic Hospital. During this time, she was actively involved in the academic training of undergraduate and postgraduate students and contributed to ENT research with several articles published in peer-reviewed medical journals.

Her approach to patient care is deeply rooted in empathy, collaboration and education. As a mother herself, she understands the worries that often come with ENT conditions—especially in children—and is passionate about equipping families with the knowledge and support they need to make informed healthcare decisions.

Today, Dr Marileen Roos remains committed to offering accessible ENT care tailored to the individual needs of each patient. She continues to serve the Bloemfontein and greater Free State community with professionalism, compassion and a personal touch that sets her practice apart.

  • General ENT consultations involve an evaluation of the ears, nose, and throat by an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist, also known as an otolaryngologist. These consultations can address a wide range of conditions, from common issues like ear infections and sore throats to more complex problems like hearing loss, sinus issues, and head and neck conditions.
  • Ear disease management depends on the specific condition, but often involves a combination of self-care, medication, and in some cases, surgery. For middle ear infections, pain relief and sometimes antibiotics are used, while inner ear infections may be managed with symptom-specific medications and therapies. Chronic ear diseases may require more specialized treatments like surgery.
  • Hearing loss treatment and rehabilitation encompasses a range of approaches aimed at improving communication and quality of life for individuals with hearing loss.
    Dr Roos is a Cochlear Implant Surgeon and able to assist with various implantable hearing devices.
  • Nasal congestion and sinusitis can be effectively managed with a combination of self-care measures and, in some cases, medical treatment. Self-care includes using saline nasal sprays or washes, inhaling steam, applying warm compresses, staying hydrated, and using over-the-counter pain relievers.
